Flute Lessons
I have over 30 years of experience teaching private flute lessons and would love to work with you to help you become the best flutist you can be. I am located in the Northern Virginia area.
Lessons for Students
I love working with beginning school aged flute students to help them get started on the right track. Elementary, middle and high school students are expected to commit to weekly lessons during the academic year. At every lesson we work on tone, intonation, scales and technique, etudes and solos but lessons are always designed to focus on the musical or technical needs of the student. We also work on band music, audition pieces for District Band and All State Band, and music for Solo and Ensemble Festival. Students also participate in the annual spring recital. I encourage my students to compete in competitions such as the Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir, National Flute Association High School Flute Choir and the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra and Woodbridge Young Artist competitions.

Summer Programs
I offer 3 different programs during the summer:
-
The Six Week Summer Flute Boost is for flutists who have completed 6th grade band
-
The Six Week Summer Flute Intensive is for rising 9th graders moving up to high school band
-
Taming the Piccolo is for high school and college students or adults who want to focus on the piccolo and its unique problems.
Lessons for Adults
I enjoy working with adults. In spite of their busy schedules they are passionate about playing and want to play better in their flute choir, community band and chamber ensembles or just for themselves. Lessons can be tailored to focus primarily on those areas where you would like more help, such as rhythm, vibrato, and articulation. Lessons may be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly or monthly according to your needs and my availability.
